Deery Takes the Green Road: The Story of our Green Building
General Motors encouraged Deery Brothers to use Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Principles. LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building was designed and built to promote energy savings, efficiency in water use, reductions to greenhouse gas emissions, improved indoor environmental quality and stewardship of resources. The 52,000 square foot Deery Brothers Chevrolet building incorporates many features to save on energy and reduce the business's impact on the environment, including:
1. A white reflective roof to deflect heat in the summer and lower air conditioning bills
2. Extra insulation throughout the building
3. Low flush toilets and low volume car wash to save on water and energy costs.
4. Energy-efficient, high output lighting, along with motion detectors on the lights so they are only used when the space is occupied.
5. International Dark Sky Association approved lighting fixtures through the complex, including the parking lot, to control light pollution in the area.
It cost an extra $200,000 to earn LEED Certification on the Deery project, but we see it as an investment that will benefit our community and yourself in the long run.
